3G mobile services to end next month

The Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) confirmed yesterday that 3G mobile services will be discontinued starting June 4, 2025, after no telecom operators applied to renew their 3G licenses. CTT director Derby Lau said, “There are still several thousand users of 3G services in Macau,” but emphasized that most accounts are inactive and represent a very small share of total users. The government had extended 3G licenses for two years in 2022, with the current licenses expiring on June 4. Among Macau’s three telecom operators – CTM, China Telecom (Macau), and Hutchison Telephone (Macau) – only CTM and China Telecom offer 5G services.
