Melco announces new sales office in Cyprus to boost Macau tourism

Melco Resorts & Entertainment has announced plans to establish a sales office in Cyprus as part of its efforts to promote Macau as a premier tourism destination.

The integrated resort operator, which operates casinos in Macau and the Philippines, said it is currently setting up the sales office in Cyprus to expand its existing offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines to target European and Middle Eastern tourism.

“As a prominent integrated resort operator deeply rooted in Macau, we are thrilled to host our second ‘Glow Your Way to Macau’ event at City of Dreams Mediterranean,” said Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, Melco’s chairman and chief executive.

“It demonstrates our support for the SAR government’s drive to attract more international travelers to the city and expand Macau’s visitor sources in line with the ‘1+4’ diversified development strategy.”

Ho said Melco is confident Macau will grow to become an even more cherished and popular destination for travelers from Cyprus, broader Europe and GCC markets.

The announcement came after Melco hosted a roadshow at its City of Dreams Mediterranean resort in Limassol, Cyprus, earlier this week.

About 150 guests attended the roadshow, including officials from the Republic of Cyprus government, representatives from the Macau SAR government, travel agencies, business associations, and media from Europe and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Andreas Gregoriou, head of Presidency for Cyprus, noted the country’s strategic location provides unmatched access to markets in Europe, Asia, Africa and the wider Mediterranean, Middle East regions.

For the executive, as an EU member, Cyprus acts as an entry point to one of the largest economic areas worldwide.

“Cyprus, with its strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa, offers unparalleled access to markets in the wider Mediterranean, the Middle East and beyond.

As a member of the European Union, Cyprus serves as a gateway to one of the largest and most diverse economic zones in the world,” he said.

Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), also attended, stating “Macau and Cyprus have much in common and great room for cooperation in tourism and beyond.” Victoria Chan
