Survey | Most retailers and restaurateurs report declining revenue

Over half of the interviewed restaurants and similar establishments in an October survey reported a year-on-year decline in revenue. Only a quarter of the interviewed restaurants have reported a year-on-year increase in revenue in October.

According to the Business Climate Survey on Restaurants and Similar Establishments and Retail Trade released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), most owners of food and beverage establishments expected no significant change in their business.

Regarding trade, 58 percent of the interviewed retailers reported a year-on-year decrease in sales. Retailers were still cautious about their business prospects for November, with 45 percent of the interviewed retailers anticipating a year-on-year decrease in sales.

The survey participants were selected based on the revenues of the establishments, comprising 167 restaurants and similar establishments (accounting for 53 percent of the industry’s revenue) and 135 retailers (accounting for 70 percent of the industry’s revenue). The survey results reflect only the business performance and the expectations of the sample restaurants and retailers, and no extrapolation of results has been conducted.
