Newspaper Tribuna de Macau cited the general director of the AirAsia group for Greater China, Celia Lao, expressing the company’s intention to expand. However, she did not advance a date yet for the start of the prospective route.
The company’s director stated that during the first days of operation, the route to Pattaya “was not very good” in terms of passenger numbers, but she hopes these results will improve during the holiday season.
“The first flights were not very good. Perhaps the destination is new to the tourists. We need some promotion time until it reaches people. We look forward to the holiday season. Reservations for Christmas and Lunar New Year for this destination are very good,” she said.
Other possibilities such as flights between Macau and Phuket are on “standby” for now due to the fact that Phuket airport is currently undergoing expansion works. “Maybe next year,” Celia Lao added.
