One of the world’s most renowned operatic virtuosos, Plácido Domingo, will play in the city for the first time with his hand-picked artists, in collaboration with the Macau Orchestra (OM).
The “Domingo and Macau Orchestra” concert will be staged on 29 August at 8p.m. at the Macau Cultural Centre’s Grand Auditorium.
One of the “Three Tenors”, Plácido Domingo has gained international fame for his outstanding skills and artistic achievements. He has played over 144 different roles and performed classical works by composers Giacomo Puccini, Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi, among many others. Domingo has recorded over 100 albums, some of which have sold over a million copies, and has been awarded 12 Grammy awards. He is known for his powerful voice and wide range, which has been described as “soft as velvet.”
Several countries, such as the United Kingdom, the U.S. and France, among others, have bestowed accolades on the tenor in recognition of his musical talent and lifetime contributions to his field. The Economist once described his performance as having “a musical lyricism and a sexual passion that make the cost and the effort entirely worthwhile”, also characterizing Domingo’s performance as “unforgettable” and “luminous.” Domingo has held numerous highly acclaimed concerts across the U.S., China and several European countries.
The  “Domingo and Macau Orchestra” show is co-organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and the Macau Government Tourist Office, with the support of MGM Macau. According to a press release issued by the IC, it will be a one-time only performance. Tickets have been available since Saturday, and prices range from MOP1880 to MOP680.
