CE congratulates central gov’t on spacecraft launch

The Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, sent a congratulatory message to the Central Government regarding the successful launch of the Shenzhou-12 crewed spacecraft, which blasted off at 9:22 a.m. yesterday. According to a statement issued by the Government Information Bureau, Ho expressed the “greatest respect for the crew of three astronauts sent into space, as well as the scientists and others involved in the mission,” wishing the mission ongoing success.
Shenzhou-12 is the 19th flight mission in the country’s aerospace engineering programme. It is also the first-ever crewed mission for the purposes of constructing China’s space station, Tiangong.

IAM head says team tried its best with June 1 heavy floods

José Tavares, president of the Executive Council of the Municipal Affairs Bureau, admitted that although he understood the general public was “extremely dissatisfied” with the bureau’s performance in dealing with the citywide floods on June 1, his team had tried their best. In the short term, he said, the conditions can only be monitored, as only changing the pipelines will help ease the situation. He also hinted that a new pumping station is needed in Fai Chi Kei North Bay.
