Charles Landry, an urban planning expert and author of the book “The Creative City: A Toolkit for Urban Innovators,” is the keynote speaker of this year’s “Lectures by Masters of Culture” event organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).
This year’s lecture, “Macau: A Culture of Ambition and Creativity as Catalysts for a Sustainable City” will be held on Sunday 30 October at 3 p.m. at the Macao Science Centre Convention Hall.
The British keynote speaker is considered an international authority in the use of imagination and creativity in urban change. In the late 1980s, he renewed the concept of the “creative city”, focusing on how cities can create conditions for people and organizations to think, plan and act with imagination in the solving of problems and the development of opportunities.
Charles Landry has worked and given talks in over 60 countries and helped change the way in which the possibilities for reinventing cities are assessed and implemented. His “Creative City Index” is a tool to measure the creative ecosystems of places.
In this lecture, Landry will share successful cases in famous cultural cities across the world, and will prove that ambition and creativity in combination with cultural events and imagination are the keys to establishing a creative city. He will invite the audience to think from a new perspective on how to establish a creative, energetic and liveable city.
The IC launched the “Lectures by Masters of Culture” event in 2013. Since its inception world famous scholars, artists and individuals from cultural circles have been invited to come to Macau to exchange their experiences and knowledge. This stimulates perspective with an international outlook, deepening the local culture and contributing to the region’s cultural development.
The lecture will be conducted in English with simultaneous translation to Mandarin and Portuguese. Admission is free with limited seats. Reservations can now be made online or by telephone.
