CRIME | Loan sharking ring members nabbed for illegal detention

The Judiciary Police arrested four mainland loan sharks last weekend for illegally detaining one Hong Kong national and one Malaysian national in a foot massage parlor because the pair were unable to  pay off their debts.
The four unemployed suspects, ranging from 22 to 28 in age, were said to be members of a loan sharking ring formed with four other people believed to be still at large. Authorities stated that the 35-year-old Malaysian businessman’s girlfriend contacted the police and was immediately rushed to the scene.
Another 31-year-old victim, a clerk at a logistics company, was found alongside the man upon arrival of the inspectors at the store located in NAPE. Both of the detainees were approached by the gang in the early morning of Friday and Saturday respectively at the entrance of one casino in the same area, being offered loans of HKD30,000 and HKD20,000 with interest for gambling.
Meanwhile, they inked a loan contract with their passports as well as withholding their identification cards. After losing all of their money at the gaming table in another casino nearby, the victims were subsequently dragged to the store by the gangsters who demanded ransoms from their friends or family.
Separately, a Hong Kong university student has allegedly been smuggling hard drugs via his rectum into the region since January this year.
PJ believes that the suspect, aged 22 and surnamed Yan, transported drugs in the same way over 50 times, according to his previous entry-exit records provided by the immigration department.
After a tip-off from a source around one week ago, the PJ agents intercepted the college student at around 10 p.m. last Saturday upon his arrival in the city. He removed a condom containing 9.96 grams of cocaine from his anus on his own during the investigation. The six tiny packets all stashed in the condom were said to be worth HKD30,000 in market value.
The suspect claimed that he had a “friend” he knew in Hong Kong, who arranged every single deal in advance through an instant messaging application. He was simply required to go to Macau to deliver the drugs to buyers for the HKD3,000 remuneration each time. The suspect admitted to the crime and will face prosecution.

24 reports involving dore group

PJ authorities revealed that as of September 14 at 9 a.m., up to 24 Dore group investors asked them to intervene in the case. The amount involved in the cases reaches over HKD270 million. Among those seeking help are 19 locals, 4 are from the mainland and one person is from Hong Kong.
