Direct Macau-Nanchang flights launching in September

The Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) announced yesterday the launch of direct flights between Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi, and Macau starting September 10, offering three round-trip flights per week – a move that local tourism representatives believe will attract more visitors and significantly enhance tourism cooperation and exchange between Macau and Jiangxi.

The Lushan Cultural Tourism Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd. and China International Travel Service (Macao) Limited hosted a promotion conference yesterday on the site, attended by numerous representatives from Macau’s tourism industry and travel agencies.

Located in the southern suburbs of Jiujiang city, Jiangxi Province, Lushan is a UNESCO World Heritage site, a UNESCO Global Geopark, a national 5A-rated tourist attraction, and a celebrated cultural mountain reflecting China’s landscape culture. It also initiated the Association for the World Famous Mountains.

Yan Wei Dong, general manager of China International Travel Service (Macao) Limited, highlighted Lushan’s unique cultural resources and announced the establishment of a Lushan Promotion Center in Macau to boost promotional efforts.

She noted the cultural similarities between Jiangxi and Macau and the potential for cooperation despite geographical distance. The travel agency has organized six study tours to Jiangxi to promote its cultural and tourism resources in Macau.

She expressed hope for mutual exchanges, stating that Jiangxi is looking to attract tourists to Macau while promoting Macau’s resources in Jiangxi.

Acknowledging transportation challenges, she remains optimistic that the new direct flights from Nanchang to Macau by China Eastern Airlines will greatly enhance cooperation and exchanges between the two regions.

Tang Ka Man, vice president of the Association of Macao Tourist Agents, noted that there is growing interest among groups such as retirees in Macau to travel to mainland China, driven by the mainland’s open market, lower prices, and more affordable tour packages.

The natural beauty of Lushan is particularly attractive to these travelers. However, the current travel route requires Macau residents to first fly to Nanchang via Zhuhai before transferring to Lushan, making it cumbersome. He believes that establishing a direct flight would greatly improve transportation convenience.

According to Tang, yesterday’s promotional event aimed to leverage Macau’s platform to showcase Lushan’s cultural and tourism attractions in Jiangxi Province, helping local residents learn more about Lushan and enhancing its tourism vitality.

Future plans include using the association’s international market resources to promote Lushan’s scenery and culture to global travelers.
