The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) has awarded over 60 local schools the “Vibrant Campus” status after implementing six specific mandatory measures that significantly increased the average daily physical activity time for students to 40 minutes.
During the awarding ceremony last week, DSEDJ director Kong Chi Meng stated, “The bureau aims to collectively safeguard the physical and mental well-being of students… sports not only promote physical health but are also a vital pathway for developing psychological resilience and social skills, positively impacting academic efficiency.”
The ceremony honored schools that demonstrated outstanding performance and met key targets in promoting campus sports, healthy lifestyles, and holistic student development.
The initiatives, starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, introduced the personal “physical fitness report card” for students, directly linking physical health to academic assessment.
In addition, the program aligns with the national “Weight Management Year” campaign and actively responds to the government’s “Healthy Macau Blueprint” policy, while also leveraging the momentum of Macau co-hosting the 15th National Games.
DSEDJ is providing new funding for schools to purchase sports equipment, introducing subsidies for inter-school competitions, and establishing a “Vibrant Campus” recognition scheme to strengthen the overall sports atmosphere and create a sustainable, active school environment.
