Education | Local gaming and hospitality students visit Vegas

3-054_1A group of third-year students from the Macau Polytechnic Institute’s Gaming and Recreation Management major have completed a Hospitality and Gaming Professional Development Program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
Organized by the UNLV William F. Harrah College of Hotel Management, scholars and experts from the relevant industries conducted lectures about the US gaming industry. The lectures covered issues such as the regulation of the gaming industry, gaming technologies, accounting and finance, recruitment and retention for the gaming industry, the entertainment aspect of Las Vegas culture, and food and beverage trends. The program also included site visits to casino hotels and entertainment facilities in Las Vegas.
According to a press release issued by IPM, the students who participated in the UNLV program concurred that the visit to Las Vegas was extremely helpful in instilling mind-set changes. By witnessing the synergy of entertainment, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) and gaming in Las Vegas, students “felt deeply invigorated to reflect on Macau’s future on the road to diversifying its economy, and positioning as a world center for tourism and leisure,” the press release states. Through exchanges with senior managers at hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, the students witnessed management role models who were operating in a multicultural context and competing with excellent services.
IPM began organizing international programs at UNLV for its Gaming and Recreation Management students in 2013.
