Education | UM to launch new degrees, tuition fee surges up to 40%

The University of Macau (UM) will launch two new doctoral programmes in the 2021/2022 academic year, namely the Doctor of Education Programme, offered by the Faculty of Education, and the Doctor of Public Administration Programme, offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The university also announced in the statement that the Master of Science in Data Science programme, offered by the Institute of Collaborative Innovation, will include a new specialisation, namely Smart Governance, and will revise three of its specialisations to Marketing Analytics, Computational Linguistics, and Analytics in Teaching and Learning.
A dispatch recently published in the Official Gazette indicated that the UM has increased its bachelor’s degree tuition fees for local residents by 21% for the upcoming school year.
The new tuition fees for these students in the four-year course is MOP120,000, while those in five-year programs is MOP150,000.
Overseas students, including those from Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China, will see a staggering tuition fee hike of 40%. From the next academic year, they will be required to pay MOP104,200 per year – totaling to up to MOP521,000 for those in five-year degree programs. LV
