Fashion Asia Awards | Event recognizes Macanese designer

Nuno Lopes de Oliveira

Several Macau fashion finalists and the integrated resort, Galaxy Macau, will be awarded today at the Fashion Asia Awards 2016 presentation ceremony held in Chongqing, China.

Among the finalists to be awarded is Macanese designer Nuno Lopes de Oliveira who will be bestowed with an accolade in the category for Asia Top Young Designer 2016. He told the Times that it was an important award that would motivate him to “do better as a fashion designer.”

“China is one of the [biggest] consumer markets, so being able to have a chance to introduce my brand via this platform will push this Macanese brand to other territories – not just in China, but in Asia as a whole,” said Oliveira. This recognition “has been a great motivation [to] thrive me to do better as a fashion designer,” he added.

Asked about the proportion of the finalists that are based in or from Macau, Oliveira said that it gives the impression that the local fashion industry is beginning to develop. “[It] gives out a sense that the Macau creative and fashion industries are slowly catching up to the standards of the global market,” said Oliveira. “To show that Macau is not only a city of gaming but there is also creative talent within this small region.”

Galaxy Macau will be awarded the title of Asia’s Top Fashionable Tourist Attraction of the Year, in recognition of the offerings at The Promenade Shops element of the integrated resort.

“We are extremely proud to receive this award in recognition of the fashionable shopping, dining and leisure opportunities on offer at The Promenade Shops at Galaxy Macau,” Amy Lee, assistant senior vice president of retail marketing services at Galaxy Macau, wrote in an emailed message.
