The Macau China Myanmar Friendship Association is calling for donations in order to support relief efforts in Myanmar, which has recently been experiencing the worst flooding in 4 decades.
More than a hundred people have been killed as the government in Hakha relocated roughly 4,000 people from 375 homes that had been destroyed by landslides triggered by the torrential rain.
The association’s president Jose Wong said that the livelihoods of around 227,000 families scattered across 12 states or regions have been compromised, while those who have been affected by the floods have totaled just over one million.
The group’s earlier field trip to the affected areas has revealed that the nation was in dire need of international assistance, according to Wong, despite the association having already donated MOP70,000 to the Burmese government through the Chinese embassy.
He urged for people in Macau and Burmese nationals abroad to extend a helping hand to the flood-plagued nation.
The nationwide flood was said to have dealt a heavy blow to residents  as many returned home to nothing, with their homes and belongings buried in mud. Tropical cyclone Komen, which ravaged the country last week, compounded the nation’s ordeal. Staff reporter
