Reigning European Formula Three Champion and two-time winner of the Macau Grand Prix, Felix Rosenqvist, has said that “winning in Macau requires a massive amount of luck”, ahead of the racing competition that will take to Macau’s streets this month.
Defending champion, Rosenqvist, has declared that he has nothing left to prove after his successes last year. Rosenqvist won the competition last year – a personal triumph for the Swedish racer – after failing to win the blue riband race on four previous occasions.
“Last year, I had a lot of pressure on me. I had a tough season in Europe and I needed to prove myself in Macau,” Rosenqvist told the South China Morning Post. “This time around it’s very different. I arrive without any pressure at all and I know what I’m capable of.”
“Winning in Macau requires a massive amount of luck and you have this in the back of your mind all weekend, so if somebody else puts me out of the race, I won’t grieve about it,” the Swedish racer added.
Rosenqvist, who recently turned 24, will race with the Italian team, Prema Powerhouse, on November 22. For the third year, Prema Powerhouse is aligned with the Theodore Racing name established by Macau Grand Prix “godfather” Teddy Yip.
Rosenqvist is the only driver to have won the Macau Grand Prix, Masters of Formula Three twice, and the European F3 Championship. He aspires to race in Formula One in the future.
Competition is expected to be red-hot for this year’s 62nd edition of the race, with several new faces seeking to make their mark on the challenging circuit.
