Medical malpractice | Group of citizens against doctors’ statement

Members from an online political group are trying to garner financial support from other netizens in a bid to express their unified opposition in print against the remarks of multiple medical associations in newspapers over a court verdict on a medical malpractice case.
The promoters of the idea are currently seeking several Chinese-language newspapers to publish their statement, which is still under revision.
The joint statement to be posted later was signed by “a group of Macau citizens who care about society.” Its drafted content includes five points and has been made available online. The piece intends to denounce what is deemed as the attempts of 15 medical associations to challenge the city’s jurisdiction through non-legal channels as well as their “irresponsible viewpoints” on the ruling in six separate publications since the beginning of the month, including the front page (bought as an ad) of the Macau Daily News (also known as Ou Mun Yat Po).
The “concerned citizens’” message states that anyone dissatisfied with the court’s rulings should resort to legal means to seek justice, rather than pursuing any other methods to make the court compromise. It also urges for a court or committee to be established as soon as possible to handle medical malpractice in the city.
The statement also criticized the groups’ response to the court ruling, claiming that the medical sector was being irresponsible and unprofessional in those written statements, one of which mentioned that “all sorts of medical check-ups would be imposed on patients before doctors proceed with their diagnosis,” as a way to ensure that the diagnosis process is “well-done.”
