MGM continues its tradition of community care by organizing a series of Chinese New Year activities for the elderly and those in need. These initiatives include “Spring Clean for Love”, “Intergenerational Calligraphy Workshop”, and “Songs for Spring Festival”, along with complimentary haircut services for senior citizens. In addition, over 2,500 scarves hand-knitted by MGM Golden Lion Volunteer Team members, other MGM team members, and local students were distributed to 14 social welfare organizations. These efforts have benefited over 3,100 people, including local elderly, students, and people with disabilities.
House Cleaning for Chinese New Year
In celebration of the 11th anniversary of the “Spring Clean for Love” program, MGM continues to uphold its tradition of helping senior citizens with pre-CNY home cleaning, a custom believed to dispel bad luck and welcome prosperity. This year, 220 MGM team members joined hands to clean and decorate the homes of 220 senior residents at the Fai Fu Building in Fai Chi Kei Social Housing. To further enhance the celebration, MGM Golden Lion Volunteer Team distributed gift packs containing essential food items and daily necessities to the elderly, while MGM Employee Lion Dance Team delighted them with spirited lion dance performances. Additionally, MGM’s mascot, Leo, dressed as the God of Fortune, greeted the elderly and delivered best wishes.
Fostering Intergenerational Harmony
MGM also held an array of events to promote intergenerational harmony. Earlier, MGM organized the “Intergenerational Calligraphy Workshop” at the Tung Sin Tong Elderly Activity Center, where local secondary students were invited to write over 100 festive couplets for the senior residents. This visit also featured an entertaining performance – “Songs for Spring Festival” by the Golden Lion Volunteer Team and the distribution of New Year gift bags.
In January, MGM organized five charity hair-cut events benefitting more than 150 seniors. Conducted by the MGM Golden Lion Hairdressing Team and Teenagers Hairdressing Team, these haircut sessions gave seniors a fresh look to welcome the Year of the Snake. Through these activities, MGM aims to encourage the youth not only to respect and care for the elderly, but also to give back to society.
