Mobile payments rise as card spending falls in Q2

The value and number of transactions made through local mobile payment tools increased in the second quarter of 2026, while credit and debit card turnover declined, according to data from the Monetary Authority of Macao.
Mobile payment transactions totaled MOP8.7 billion, up 3% from the previous quarter. The number of transactions rose 9.7% to 106.1 million, with an average transaction value of MOP82.2. By the end of June, Macau had 112,448 mobile payment terminals and QR code signs.
Credit card turnover, meanwhile, fell 4.3% quarter-on-quarter to MOP6 billion, despite the number of transactions increasing 5.7% to 14.3 million. Credit card repayments dropped 9.2% to MOP5.9 billion.
Credit card credit limits stood at MOP51.4 billion at the end of June, up 0.5% from the previous quarter. Credit card receivables totaled MOP2.7 billion, including MOP768.6 million in rolled-over balances.
Debit card turnover, excluding cash withdrawals, totaled MOP422.8 million, while the number of debit card transactions reached 1.9 million.
