Medical staff at the public hospital will not be relocated to the future Cotai hospital during the early phase of its opening, the government has told a parliamentary committee.
The Third Standing Committee of the parliament recently concluded its discussions on the Bill of the management scheme concerning the future Cotai hospital, which will be managed by the Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH). The Bill is expected to pass at the plenary before its summer holiday commences in mid-August.
At the post-meeting press conference, committee president Vong Hin Fai recalled that the government had once said that people would be hired and trained at the current public hospital, and then relocated to the Cotai hospital when it opens. As of the latest information, the government said there is no condition for this arrangement as there is a shortage of civil servant medical staff. That is also why the government has previously made some hires in Portugal. However, civil servant medical staff may be temporarily transferred to the Cotai hospital in the future, despite the staff at the new hospital following labor schemes comparatively to private hires.
The Cotai hospital will be bound by a collection of laws and regulations governing its finances, procurement and operations.
