Number of non-resident workers increases

The number of non-resident workers in Macau continued to increase in June, reaching 180,523 according to data released by the Human Resources Office. Most non-resident workers (117,316) are from mainland China, while over 23,000 have come from the Philippines. The majority of non-resident workers are employed in the construction sector, followed by the hospitality and food service industries.

Portuguese judges get contracts renewed

The contracts of four Portuguese judges have been renewed, according to a notice published in the government’s Official Gazette (BO). Judge Rui Ribeiro will continue to head the Collective Court of Macau’s First Instance courts for another two years, starting on October 15 this year. The contracts of judges Jerónimo Santos, Mário Meireles and Ana Meireles have also been renewed for two years starting on September 1.
They serve as Court of First Instance judges. The Portuguese judges’ contracts were renewed as suggested by an independent commission tasked with nominating judges, the notice also stated.

On-street parking spaces in the busiest areas of Macau (Nam Van, ZAPE and Taipa) will become more expensive starting on September 1. Street parking meters will cost MOP6 per hour, meaning MOP1 for every 10 minutes. According to the rules published in yesterday’s Official Gazette, no vehicle will be allowed to park for more than one hour.
