A ‘black substance’ has appeared in the sands of the Hac Sa and Cheoc Van beaches in Coloane, the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) has warned. According to a statement issued by the bureau, the company hired to clean the beaches has “steadfastly proceeded with the cleaning works.”
DSAMA has posted warnings at the beach “appealing to citizens and tourists to pay attention to the situation and [not to go] to the beach.”
The relevant government departments have been notified and DSAMA will carry out a site inspection to collect samples of the substance.
In a statement issued yesterday, the bureau stressed that there are currently no lifeguards at the beaches, as the summer season has not yet arrived. Passers-by who “find any irregularity” should contact DSAMA by phone.
