Public holiday to mark victory against Japan

The Legislative Assembly (AL) plenary unanimously adopted the Office of the Chief Executive’s proposal yesterday, which suggests declaring the day a holiday “so that all citizens would be able to participate in the commemoration event.”
The Secretary for Administration and Justice, Sonia Chan, explained to lawmakers that there will be a series of activities arranged for September 3 to “commemorate the martyrs and patriots sacrificed in the Chinese people’s resistance against Japanese aggression, as well as the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, demonstrating the Chinese people’s firm determination to resist aggression and maintain peace.” BY
