Statistics | Tourism Fewer visitors in April

4-turistas-R-MARQUESTourist arrivals declined by 3.4 percent year-on-year to 2,547,435 in April, according to figures released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The number of visitors from mainland China dropped by 6.4 pct year-on-­year to 1,632,673, although those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rose slightly by 0.5 pct.
DSEC said in a statement that mainland tourists came primarily from Guangdong (663,007), Fujian (69,954), and Hunan provinces (67,004).
Visitors from Hong Kong (603,136), Taiwan (83,967), and South Korea (41,215) increased by 3 pct, 11 pct and 21.3 pct respectively year-on-year, while those from Malaysia (17,137) and Japan (16,095) decreased by 6.7 pct and 16.5 pct.
Long-haul tourists from the United States (16,891), Canada (6,360) and the United Kingdom (5,710) recorded a year-­on-year increase, while those from Australia (8,501) saw a decline.
In the first four months of 2015, visitor arrivals totaled 9,959,656, down by 3.6 percent year-on-year.
