Statistics | Tourist arrivals in June lowest in 32 months

Visitor arrivals in June recorded 7.6-percent year-on-year and 11.8-percent month-to-month declines, amounting to 2.24 million, which is the worst number recorded since September 2012, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) revealed yesterday. Same-day visitors decreased by 9.7 percent year-on-
year to 1.15 million (52 percent of the total).
Visitors from the mainland, who accounted for over 60 percent of the total, decreased by 10 percent to 1.43 million, while those traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme dropped by 4.2 percent as well.
According to DSEC’s data, visitor arrivals from most Asian countries or regions recorded year-on-year falls in June. Visitors from Taiwan, South Korea and India decreased by 5.9 percent, 24.8 percent and 3.3 percent respectively year-on-year, while those from Hong Kong and the Philippines increased by 2.0 percent and 6.5 percent, DSEC figures indicated.
DSEC data showed that numbers of long-haul visitors from Canada and Britain registered year-on-year increases, whereas those from the United States and Australia decreased.
In the first half of 2015, visitor arrivals totaled 14.75 million, down by 3.5 percent year-on-year. Overnight visitors decreased by 6.6 percent to 6.61 million.
