Tourists want Wanzai border opening hour to extend

Some tourists told Hou Kong Daily that they hope the local government will pay more attention to the Wanzai Border and extend the opening hours of the Inner Harbor checkpoint, in order to provide more choices for visitors. As of Saturday, the number of passengers crossing the Wanzai Border checkpoint during the New Year holiday period had surged by 72 percent to 6,541, according to Zhang Qingnian, manager of the Yuet Tung Shipping Company’s department of passengers. A tourist from the mainland said that it only took 10 minutes for him and his family to cross the Wanzai checkpoint to Macau’s Inner Harbor and another 10 minutes’ walk to the city center. This means that they do not need to worry about transportation. He added that as most tourists would like to extend their stay in Macau, the opening hours of the Wanzai checkpoint from 8 a.m. to 4.15 p.m., with a two-hour break at midday, is too short. He recommended the Macau government extend the border-crossing hours so that visitors will have more checkpoints to choose from when entering and exiting Macau.
