80 killed in Boko Haram attacks

Boko Haram Islamic extremists struck the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri for the first time in months yesterday with rocket-propelled grenades and multiple suicide bombers, witnesses said. At least 50 people were killed and the death toll could go higher. Another twin suicide bombing killed at least 30 people in Madagali, a town 150 kilometers southeast of Maiduguri, witnesses said.

Saudi Arabia posts USD98b deficit

Saudi Arabia said yesterday that this year’s budget deficit amounted to USD98 billion (367 billion riyals) as lower oil prices cut into the government’s main source of revenue, prompting the kingdom to scale back spending for the coming year. For the third consecutive year, the kingdom said it will post a budget shortfall in 2016, projecting a deficit of $87b.
