ISO certification touted as way to enhance competitiveness

Macau companies can enhance their competitiveness through the quality management accreditation process, according to Howie Ng, a guest speaker at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification seminar held last Friday at the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center.
Dozens of company representatives joined the seminar, with about half of them not having yet received ISO 9001 certification.
“Companies should view this [process of obtaining certification] as a chance to review the company’s operational status and to think of what can be further improved,” said Ng, the technical director of Hong Kong Veritas Limited, who underwent 14 days of quarantine in order to participate in the seminar.
Ng also stressed that it is important for companies to understand customers’ needs and improve customer satisfaction during the pandemic.
ISO 9001 sets out the criteria for a quality management system. It helps organizations ensure they meet customers’ and other stakeholders’ needs within the statutory and regulatory requirements related to a product or service. More than 1 million companies around the world have been certified. Staff reporter
