Another setback for Alexis Tam

Observers are speculating that one factor which may have driven Marco Mueller away from the festival in such an unexpected manner is the “chaotic” nature of the organization behind the event.

It is not the first time this year that international consultants have resigned voicing similar criticism.

As reported by the Times in September, leading Macau Grand Prix consultant, Barry Bland, whose Motor Race Consultants company has been involved in the racing event since 1983, announced his withdrawal citing rushed developments that have become characteristic of local organizers.

The claims were seconded by some of the regular participants at the Guia Circuit race, with several teams reporting communication problems and a lack of response from local organizers.

Mueller’s resignation marks another blow to the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam, who has faced numerous setbacks to his ambitious projects this year.

In a statement made by Tam to Radio Macau, the secretary simply said, “it was a personal and unexpected decision” by Mueller. A press conference will be held today where more information will be disseminated. DB
