Local art association, Art for All Society (AFA), is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an exhibition titled “The Beginner’s Mind – Works by AFA Founders.”

The exhibition’s opening ceremony will be held on August 25 at Tak Chun Macau Art Garden. The participating artists are the founders of AFA – Bianca Lei, James Chu, Konstantin Bessmertny, Noah Ng Fong Chao and Tong Chong.

The artworks that will be showcased include paintings, videos and mixed media.

According to a press release from AFA, the exhibition is curated based on the theme “Beginner’s Mind.” The term comes from a Buddhist classic text of Avatamsaka Sutra which is “The very beginning mind itself is the most accomplished mind of true enlightenment.” It is noted as the “best mind” but the most difficult one to attain.

While the founders have witnessed the growth of AFA throughout the past 10 years, the exhibition seeks to revisit the original intention of AFA’s establishment.

AFA was founded in 2007 with the aim to enhance the development of Macau contemporary art, to facilitate local art creations and to assist the Macau government with the development of local cultural undertakings.

The non-profitable art organization holds solo exhibitions of Macau artists monthly, exhibiting over 1,000 artworks including painting, photography, sculpture, print-making and video installations from more than 40 of Macau’s dynamic contemporary artists. AFA also brings local artworks to exhibitions and art fairs in other countries including Portugal, Japan and the United States.

The exhibition will be open to the public from August 26 to September 17.
