Benfica defeated Maritimo 2-0 yesterday [Macau time] to move a step closer to winning the Portuguese league title.
Konstantinos Mitroglou scored in the 48th minute and Anderson Talisca in the 83rd at the Madeira Islands to keep Benfica two points clear of Sporting Lisbon, which routed Setubal 5-0 at home to remain in contention.
It was the 11th win in a row for Benfica, which is trying to win its third straight title.
Sporting is chasing its first trophy since the 2001-02 season. AP
