Briefs | Candidates suggest MOP10,000 for birth subsidies

The group Aliança de Bom Lar, which is running for the Legislative Assembly election, is calling through its political platform for a MOP10,000 birth subsidy. The list political platform is mainly focused on protecting women’s and children’s rights, as well as on pushing forward family development.  The group also suggests the government provide MOP1 billion for supporting households’ needs, and for improving the quality of life of every single member in a household. The group also hopes that the city can implement a five-day paid paternity leave, as well as extend the number of days of maternity leave.

Members of HK, Macau electoral councils approved

China’s legislature approved on Friday the member lists of the electoral councils that will elect deputies from the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau to the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC). A total of 1,989 people in Hong Kong and 481 in Macau were approved at the bimonthly session of the Standing Committee of the NPC, which ended Friday. Thirty-six deputies from Hong Kong and 12 deputies from Macau will be elected according to a plan released by the NPC Standing Committee this April. Current deputies will end their term in March 2018. The election of deputies to the 13th NPC shall be completed in January 2018.
