Briefs | New Hengqin border facilities to be completed in six years

The Zhuhai authorities have initiated the construction of an integrated border transit center at the Hengqin border. According to Macao Daily News, Zhuhai has invested RMB26 billion in the new facilities, which will be located on Zhuhai’s side of the border. Construction works are scheduled for completion in six years. Occupying a total of 1.21 million square meters, Zhuhai’s new border facilities will have 14 manual checkpoints and 60 automatic checkpoints, 11 of which will be for buses and six for cargo. The Zhuhai government expects the new facilities to have the capacity to handle 220,000 passengers per day.

Escola Keang Peng opens new campus 

The new primary school campus of Escola Keang Peng was officially opened yesterday. The 3,340 square-meter campus had commenced operations last September. Keang Peng’s primary school consists of six grades, with each grade in turn comprised of six classes. Around 1,200 students attend the school, where there are approximately 100 teaching staff. At the opening ceremony, Chief Executive Chui Sai On said that the new campus fully complies with the requirements of modern education.

Man arrested for setting fire at home

A male Macau resident was arrested yesterday at his home for setting his bedsheets on fire after an argument with his wife, according to a report by TDM. The Judiciary Police revealed that the suspect has been unemployed for many years and has a gambling addiction.  The suspect’s wife gave him a monthly allowance of MOP4,000 but delayed this month’s handout. The couple got into an argument and the suspect set the sheets on fire. His wife suffered burns on her right hand while attempting to put the fire out.
