Safety – Macau International Airport’s first priority

DSC_2337To ensure safe flight operation, MIA has been allocating resources to update or upgrade different airport facilities and equipment. From 2009, MIA launched the Communications, Navigation, Surveillance System (CNS), with a total investment of MOP170 million. The project included updating 10 CNS sub-systems to improve the accuracy of airport equipment and safety performance. The CNS project was assisted by the Civil Aviation of China (CAAC)’s North China Regional Air Traffic Management Bureau (ATMB). After the project was completed in 2012, which went through a Flight Check conducted by the Civil Aviation of China, all systems achieved a high level of quality test results with the related equipment to provide high-precision navigation capability. After the upgrade, MIA’s equipment achieved Automated Air Traffic Control standards; Runway 34 has a high-precision CAT II Instrument Landing System (ILS) and accurate DVOR/DME navigation services to ensure safe flight operation.
