CRIME | Burglar breaks into Chan Meng Kam’s Cheoc Van mansion

A burglar stole several thousand dollars from the house of lawmaker Chan Meng Kam last Friday night in Cheoc Van, Coloane.
The Public Security Police (PSP) suggested that it was Chan’s maid who first spotted the male burglar when he was climbing into the house through a window in the laundry room. The man allegedly threatened the maid with a knife in his hand. Chan’s family then handed MOP5,000 to the burglar before he escaped.
PSP received the burglary report at about 10 p.m. and dispatched officers to the scene. Some of them were seen carrying submachine guns and wearing bulletproof vests.
Officers found five to six people in Chan’s house, including his family and maid. They also collected evidence from the house and took with them the knife that allegedly belonged to the burglar. However, they did not find any suspects after launching a search in the area. The Judiciary Police has already taken over the investigation.
