Education | 40pct of local graduates draw salaries of over MOP18,000

The director of the Tertiary Education Services Office, Sou Chio Fai, said that 40 percent of local residents who graduated from university within the last year drew salaries higher than MOP18,000, the median for residents in Macau.

Sou disclosed this information during a TDM radio program, in which he said that the remaining 60 percent were offered a salary “slightly lower” than the median.

The percentage changes for students who graduated three years ago. Some 60 percent of the students who graduated more than three years ago received salaries of higher than MOP18,000, while 40 percent received lower salaries.

Sou’s office surveyed university students before and three years after their graduation.

Ninety percent of surveyed graduates hoped to stay in or return to Macau. Eighty percent of those surveyed were able to find a full-time job within three months of graduation.

Sou expressed his hopes that students can develop their professional and general knowledge after graduating by continuing to improve their communication, language and cooperation abilities.

In Macau, more than a third of graduates found a job corresponding to their majors. As a point of comparison, Sou stated that less than a third of graduates in the United States find jobs corresponding to their majors.
