Hengqin Port has recorded more than 10 million cross-border movements so far this year, reaching the milestone by 2 p.m. on May 7, according to the Public Security Police Force (PSP).
The figure represents a 32% year-on-year increase and marks the fastest time the port has surpassed the 10-million mark since it began operations in 2000 – 46 days earlier than in 2024.
Daily traffic has averaged 79,000 entries and exits. Of those crossing the border, 37% were tourists, 25% Macau residents, 21% non-local university students, and 15% non-resident workers.
From January to April, 81% of travelers passed through the main passenger hall, 12% used vehicle inspection lanes, and 7% were processed in halls for passengers accompanying vehicles.
The PSP attributed the surge to several factors, including the launch of the Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Hengqin Line, expanded tourism offerings, and steady growth in the convention, cultural, and sports sectors. Authorities expect cross-border movement to continue rising.
The PSP said it will work closely with port authorities in both Macau and Hengqin to improve capacity, processing speed, and convenience. LV
