With the return of the “11th International Lion Dance Championship 2024 – MGM Cup”, the Barra District is set to come alive this October. Beyond the riveting battles featuring over 20 lion dance troupes, visitors will be amused by a series of extension activities including workshops and performances that promise to immerse the public in the fascinating Lingnan lion dance culture.
From today to Oct 6, the Barra District will be filled with vibrant energies of street spectacle. “The Journey of Big Head Buddha” performance blending the big-head Buddha figure from traditional Southern lion dances with stilt walking acts. Skilled performers will interact with the audience and lead them on a journey through the Barra District, starting from the Barra Square in front of A-Ma Temple, all the way to the Open Area of Navy Yard No. 2.
At Navy Yard No. 2, art enthusiasts and families can unleash their creativity by enrolling in lion dance themed workshops. Create your unique pair of martial arts shoes at the “Ultimate Kung Fu Shoes DIY Workshop” and decorate the traditional musical instrument for lion dances with your favorite colors and patterns at the “Lion Dance Drum Painting Workshop”.
