Job-matching session for graduates slated for July, says DSEDJ chief

The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), in conjunction with the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), local tertiary education institutions, and community organizations, has scheduled a job-matching event in July specifically aimed at recent local graduates.

Kong Ching Meng, head of the DSEDJ, stated that the government places “significant emphasis” on youth employment.

He added that, concerning internships, relevant public agencies have consistently pointed out that hiring non-local workers is a strategy to address local labor shortages, with the number of non-local employees adjusted according to current demand.

“In July, we will hold a large-scale job-matching event coordinated by the DSEDJ to gather data on graduates and organize students, while the DSAL will collaborate with local companies to create job opportunities. This event will facilitate connections between students and employers, helping them find suitable positions,” said Kong,

He further noted that they would also collaborate with community groups to organize job fairs for young people and offer pre-employment counseling, helping graduates gain valuable insights into market demands and employer expectations.

The DSEDJ chief emphasized that the events will be exclusively available to local recent graduates and young individuals who have completed their studies in recent years, including those who have pursued education outside Macau.

Before the job-matching event, pre-employment training activities will be offered, focusing on interview skills, market demand analysis, and preparation for engaging with employers.

“As a matter of fact, the data we collect extends beyond local graduates to include recent graduates from the mainland and abroad. We gather comprehensive information to build a robust student database, which we use to inform them about our job-matching events, encouraging their participation. If they cannot attend in person, they have the option to join online to learn about available job opportunities and hiring companies,” he told the media on the sidelines of a public event on Wednesday evening.

Additionally, Kong emphasized that the authorities place great importance on youth internships. Alongside the existing “Youth Employment During Summer Holidays” scheme and the “Mainland Internship Program for Macau Tertiary Students”, which offer internships for university students yet to graduate – along with a one-time subsidy of MOP 5,000 upon completion – the DSEDJ plans to introduce a career planning blueprint for secondary school students.

“We will implement career planning at the junior high school level, organizing monthly sessions with various companies and industries to provide guidance. This will enable students to make informed decisions earlier about whether to pursue further education or enter the workforce,” he added.

The DSEDJ and DSAL will jointly organize the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area Employment Assistance Programme, providing a monthly subsidy of MOP 5,000 for up to 18 months to Macau youth aged 35 or under seeking careers in the Greater Bay Area.

This initiative aims to enhance their employment and learning opportunities, leveraging the region’s diverse industries and resources for professional growth.
