Local man suspected of scam involving Portuguese investment visa

A local man identified as the head of a Macau media company has been arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on suspicion of carrying out a scam involving the granting of a Portuguese investment visa to a mainland Chinese man.
The case, revealed by the PJ earlier this week, involved RMB2.1 million, which the suspect allegedly collected from the victim to process the visa.
According to a PJ spokesperson, after receiving a complaint from the victim, the force launched an investigation, which found that the suspect used the funds transferred to him to pay off his own debts.
The PJ also said the suspect had no specific contacts or qualifications suggesting he was able to assist with the processing of such a residency document in Portugal.
The suspect was detained in Macau by the PJ and, after questioning, was referred to the Public Prosecutions Office for further investigation and possible prosecution.RM
