Low-pressure system may bring storms and heavy rain to Macau

The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said a low-pressure area over the northern South China Sea is gradually developing and is expected to move closer to the Pearl River Estuary today. The bureau said the system could develop into a tropical cyclone and approach Macau. Authorities will assess whether to issue a tropical cyclone signal or strong monsoon signal. Macau is expected to experience winds of force 4 to 6, with gusts possible. Frequent showers and thunderstorms, including periods of heavy rain, are forecast from today. Residents are advised to remain alert to possible flooding.
