Macau is stepping up its aviation ambitions with a new task force aimed at opening up the air travel market and turning the city into a regional aviation hub.
The local government has established an “Aviation Industry Development Working Group” to strengthen cross-departmental coordination and accelerate the opening of the air travel market, as part of broader efforts to develop Macau into an international aviation hub for the western Pearl River Delta and promote high-quality development of the city’s civil aviation sector.
The working group, chaired by the secretary for transport and public works, brings together representatives from multiple government agencies, including the Civil Aviation Authority of Macau (AACM), the Macau Customs Service (SA), the Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau (DSEPDR), the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), the Public Security Police Force (PSP), the Transport Bureau (DSAT) and the airport concessionaire.
According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, the working group’s primary functions include conducting comprehensive studies and implementing phased measures on matters such as commercial air passenger transport licensing and aviation hub development, in line with the goals of the Third Five-Year Plan.
The working group is also expected to help Macau better integrate into the country’s overall development strategy.
