I am going to go for a tough early season race in my column. It is difficult because it is a sand sprint race, speed and tactics plus the low draw would have the edge in the running, but my pick in this race is not a usual front runner and his racing style is following the pace and comes from behind; just like his last race he covered himself after the two strong on pace runners and at the last 50 metres got to the front with his strong turn of foot and won. It shows that he has a good fighting heart and willing to fight. This horse that I am talking about is Ventures Elite (pictured) in race 5 in this Friday’s night’s meeting. Ventures Elite has good pedigree from Battle Paint out from the Ishiguru mare Four Roses. Battle Paint, sire of seven stakes performers headed by Group 2 winner Battle Time and star Singapore galloper Affleck, who was champion of Two & Three-Year-Old in Singapore.
In the track work Ventures Elite looking good and full of himself, he gave me the impression that he is ready for a good run in the early season, with a good draw in barrier 3, he should find an ideal tactical spot and run on to get into the money. Davy Chiu
