Two-time Macau Grand Prix winner and current Euro Formula 3 champion, Felix Rosenqvist, has been named Mercedes-AMG test and reserve driver for the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DMT) season.
The 24-year-old Swedish driver tested a Mercedes-AMG DTM car in December 2014 in Jerez, Spain as part of his reward for winning the Macau Grand Prix that year.
He says that he is already comfortable as part of the Mercedes line-up and is keen to prove his worth as a DTM driver.
“I’ve had an excellent relationship with Mercedes for quite a long time and really feel at home in the team,” Rosenqvist said. “Of course, it will be a new experience for me to act as test and reserve driver for the DTM squad.”
Rosenqvist will adopt this new role as Esteban Ocon steps into a rookie campaign in the German championship. Ocon, who undertook the role of DTM reserve driver last year, assisted other drivers and prepared himself for a future career during the season. He is now moving into a full-time driving role with Team ART Mercedes.
“If you get the chance to drive in the DTM, you want to be as well prepared as possible, so from that perspective, this is a great opportunity for me to learn as much as possible about the DTM,” said Rosenqvist.
