Briefs | Mozambique to open consulate in Macau

Mozambique is expected to open a consulate in Macau this year. According to TDM, Rafael Marques will be the new consul and is heading the Mozambican delegation visiting the MSAR in order to solve issues regarding the opening of the diplomatic facility. Mozambique will be the third Portuguese-speaking country to have a consulate in Macau after Portugal and Angola, which opened their consular offices in 1999 and 2007 respectively.

79 pct of schools to start new term on Sep. 1

There will be 61 schools starting the new term of the school year of 2014/2015 on September 1, accounting for 79 percent of the total schools in the city, according to the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ). Another 10 will begin classes on Sep. 2 and six will start courses respectively from the 3rd to 5th of September. On a different note, the Transport Bureau met three bus operators, who are now required to submit operational plans for the new school term. Measures include placing additional shifts and sending inspectors and assistants to busy areas.

No local residents found amid Kaohsiung casualties

The Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) has said that no Macau residents were found amongst the casualties of the gas explosions that rocked the Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung on July 31 and Aug. 1. The Office has not received any inquiries or requests for assistance so far. The deadly gas explosions in the southern city killed 28 and injured over 280, according to media updates yesterday. Chief Executive Chui Sai On sent his condolences to victims and their families last Friday.
