A pawnshop worker was robbed at knifepoint early Sunday morning in Nape.
The suspect, a 49-year-old mainland Chinese man, was apprehended just four hours later in Zhuhai, with the coordination between the Macau and Zhuhai police forces.
The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when the suspect entered the Rua de Coimbra pawnshop, pretending to be a customer.
He closed the shop’s gate and held a fruit knife to a female employee’s neck, demanding the money in the cash drawer. The suspect stole HKD145,000 in less than two minutes before fleeing.
The employee, who suffered minor injuries to her neck, immediately contacted the police.
Investigations revealed the suspect had taken a taxi to the Portas do Cerco border post and crossed into Zhuhai around 6 a.m.
Macau police then notified mainland authorities.
Under the guidance of the Guangdong Provincial Public Police Department, the Zhuhai Public Security authorities apprehended the suspect by 10 a.m. the same morning.
Approximately RMB20,000 and HKD14,000 in cash, believed to be the stolen funds, were recovered.VC
