Residents report feeling tremors following Guangdong Earthquake

Several Macau residents reported feeling tremors yesterday evening, following a 4.3-magnitude earthquake that struck near Qingcheng District in Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the quake occurred at 6:48 p.m. and had a focal depth of 10 kilometers.

The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau confirmed that it received public feedback about the tremors and is currently verifying the situation.

Local residents shared their experiences online shortly after the incident.

“I felt the earthquake in the NAPE area while I was playing on my phone in bed,” one resident wrote. “I felt the bed shaking violently, and the earthquake made me feel it more strongly.”

Another person said, “I felt [the quake] clearly at 6:49 p.m. in Praça Ponte Horta.”

“I felt it at the ZAPE area. I thought there was something wrong with the chair I was sitting on,” a third resident added. Others described seeing objects shake. “I saw the bottles on top of the refrigerator at home shaking a few times,” another one noted. Some residents in Ocean Gardens and the central area also felt the tremor.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage in Macau as of press time.

More than 1,500 Hong Kong residents also reported feeling mild tremors.

Residents in nearby cities such as Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Foshan, Zhuhai, and Dongguan also reported feeling the tremor.

The Guangdong Earthquake Agency confirmed that there were no injuries and that emergency response measures were activated. LV
