Briefs: Galaxy employees to rally seeking 10 percent salary rise

Casino workers employed by Galaxy will organize a rally if the company does not agree to a 10 percent salary increase. Radio Macau reported that workers are willing to take to the streets if the gaming operator does not meet their demands and provide an answer on time.  Workers representatives and members of the Forefront of the Macau Gaming gathered at the Labor Affairs Bureau (DSAL) last Friday to request DSAL members to intervene as a mediator between employees and gaming operators. The Forefront of Macau Gaming criticized the lack of response from Galaxy. The association’s president, Ieong Man Teng, said that if Galaxy does not provide an answer by the beginning of this week, casino employees will organize a rally tomorrow, August 5.

CAECE rejects appeal from CE candidate

Yesterday the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive (CAECE) maintained the original decision of not accepting Mr Lei Kuong Un as a candidate for the Chief Executive election. CAECE announced earlier that Lei, the sole candidate in competition with Chui Sai On in the forthcoming Chief Executive election, is not a qualified candidate as none of his 110 signatures belong to the Electoral College members. Lei filed an objection to the authorities however, as Lei claims to be a Chinese medicinal practitioner and former public servant of the Macau government. Nonetheless, the CAECE said in the statement that Lei could file an appeal to the Court of Final Appeal no later than tomorrow (August 5). The incumbent Chief Executive Chui Sai On became the only qualified candidate after the 331 signatures from the CE Electoral College were preliminarily confirmed and accepted by CAECE.
