Typhoon Kompasu | Issuance of T8 ‘relatively high’ tonight

The probability of hoisting a Typhoon Signal 8 between tonight and tomorrow morning is “relatively high.” This comes just a few days after the city saw its longest T8 that lasted for 20 hours between Saturday to Sunday.
Yesterday, the Unitary Police Service called on the public to take precautions against the typhoon and flooding following the weather bureau’s announcement that the severe tropical storm “Kompasu” will enter the alert area of Macau around midnight today.
Winds are expected to intensify significantly and further affect the region.
Last night at 8 p.m., the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted T1.
The signal will be raised to T3 at dawn.
Last night, long queues can be seen at local supermarkets as residents prepare for the typhoon. The Times has observed that some supermarkets have ran out of fresh produce.
It is forecasted that Kompasu will intensify today and tomorrow and will move across the northern part of the South China Sea quickly.
Under the joint influence of Kompasu and the northeast monsoon, the weather in the city will be unsettled in the coming days. Winds will intensify significantly, with the possibility of the wind force reaching level 8, as well as thunderstorms.
“[The typhoon] will come closest to Macau in the early morning on Wednesday, around 400km south to Macau, and move in the general direction to Hainan,” the statement read.
Flooding around 0.5m is also expected in low-lying areas on these days.
Hong Kong has already issued T3 at 8 p.m. yesterday.
The Labour Affairs Bureau issued a statement last night reminding specialists in construction sites to carry out detailed inspections, and take measures to strengthen the equipment to avoid objects falling.
The Municipal Affairs Bureau has also deployed garbage removal work before and after the typhoon.
It called on the public to not dispose domestic garbage during the storm, as well as dispose bulky garbage after the peak garbage collection period, so as to not increase the burden of garbage removal.
