A female non-resident worker from the Philippines has been blackmailed for USD1,500 with nude pictures secretly taken when she was having a video call with the suspect during her shower. The suspect, whom she met online, commenced communication with the 50-something-year-old victim last October. Other explicit pictures had also proactively been sent to the suspect. On February 22, the suspect claimed to the victim that he wanted to travel to Macau and asked for cash. As the victim declined the request, the suspect threatened that he would publicize the pictures.

After transferring the cryptocurrency to the impersonator, the man did not receive any cash in return. Three days later, the man contacted his friend who told him he had never mentioned anything about exchanging cryptocurrency for cash. The man realised he had been scammed. In total, he lost 20,000 units of cryptocurrency. The case is now under investigation by the Judiciary Police.
