Zone CE calls for stronger Macau-Hengqin integration as zone nears fifth anniversary

Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai chaired the fifth meeting of the Leading Group for the Promotion of the Development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin yesterday, where officials reviewed progress made during the first half of 2026 and discussed future priorities.

According to a statement issued by the Government Information Bureau, the meeting heard reports on the Cooperation Zone’s development progress, the Macau government’s implementation of a package of policy measures to further advance Hengqin development, and efforts to improve coordination between Macau and Hengqin regulations.

Sam said the Cooperation Zone is approaching its fifth anniversary and stressed the need for Macau to continue working with Guangdong to advance the second phase of Hengqin’s development. He said the government should “treat Hengqin affairs as Macau affairs” while making full use of central government support.

The Chief Executive instructed authorities to accelerate major projects and initiatives, including the construction of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town, the pilot operation of a pre-positioned cargo terminal at Hengqin for Macao International Airport, the extension of Macau social and public services to Hengqin, joint investment promotion efforts, and regulatory coordination.

Sam emphasized that departments should strengthen coordination between Macau and Hengqin to ensure the smooth implementation of key projects.

The meeting was attended by Secretary for Administration and Justice Wong Sio Chak, Secretary for Economy and Finance Ng Wai Han, Secretary for Security Chan Tsz King, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture O Lam, and Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raymond Tam, among others.

Hengqin fair attracts 137 job offers

The Cooperation Zone’s talent development and social security authorities recently held a recruitment fair aimed at strengthening connections between employers and job seekers while supporting talent development in emerging industries.

The fair, held at the second-floor atrium of Qinming Square at Hengqin Port, attracted more than 700 applications and resulted in 137 preliminary employment intentions, according to organizers.

The fair offered more than 300 job vacancies from 36 companies operating in key sectors. The positions covered areas including technology research and development, biotechnology, modern finance, tourism, exhibitions, and business services.

Organizers said the event received 726 resumes, with 81% submitted by candidates holding bachelor’s degrees or above. Among them, 26% held postgraduate qualifications, including master’s and doctoral degrees.

The recruitment fair featured 169 job categories and 305 vacancies, offering opportunities for candidates with different professional backgrounds. Positions in administrative services, education and training, and technology research were among the most popular among applicants.

In addition to recruitment services, the event provided career guidance support, including resume reviews, interview preparation advice, and career planning consultations.

Participating companies said many applicants demonstrated strong professional qualifications and familiarity with development opportunities in both Hengqin and Macau, allowing them to better match available positions.

The organizers said the recruitment initiative was part of ongoing efforts to improve employment services, support young people and university graduates, and promote closer talent exchanges between Macau and Hengqin. Future specialized recruitment events will continue to be organized to help businesses attract talent and support the integrated development of the two regions.
